Tube-Rolling Workshop
The Rustavi Metallurgical Plant’s tube-rolling workshop produces high-quality hot-rolled seamless pipes between 168 and 426mm in diameter with wall 6-50mm thick on a Mill-400.

Pipes produced according to these standards are used for laying main pipelines, long-range oil or gas transportation, bore-holes for the extraction of oil or gas, general construction, for the automotive industry or for other technical purposes.
A Mill-140 in this workshop needs to be rebuilt. When this will be completed, it will be possible to produce seamless pipes 60 to 146mm in diameter with walls 4-22mm thick.
The “140” and “400” tube-rolling mills stand in a shared, eight-bayed building 632 metres long and 240 metres wide. Along the wall of the main building and next to the Mill-400 are work stations for the manufacture of rectangular pipes and automated lines for the production of sleeves.

The Mill-400 began to operate on the 25th of December 1953 and is one of the strongest mills in all of Europe for the production of seamless pipes.
This mill produces so-called “casing” pipes for oil fields as well as pipes for the automotive industry.
It consists of main and auxiliary sections. Its main sections comprise:
- an annular (ring) furnace
- piercing mills N1 & N2
- an automated mill
- a rolling-off mill
- a seven-caged drawing mill
- straightening machines
Tube-Rolling Workshop / The “140” tube-rolling mill
The Mill-140 began to work on the 10th of September 1952. This machine comprises the following mills:
- an annular (ring) furnace
- a piercing mill
- an automated mill
- two rolling mills
- a preheating furnace
- a drawing mill
- a reduction mill
- straightening machines
This mill produces pump-compressor, sleeved, smooth-surface and other kinds of pipes.
Besides the above-mentioned sections, the complex combining different machines and sections of these two mills also comprises the following: a cooler, a warming-up furnace which works in front of the reduction mill, mills for straightening pipes, a section for cladding pipes, mills for cutting sleeves, a section for galvanizing sleeves, tables for quality control, &c.
